Commissioned by the 2002 Texas Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer program (see press release), this romantic, single-movement quintet reflects on the emotions evoked in the hearts of Americans in the aftermath of September 11 "without being maudlin or morose" (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, March 7, 2003).
A serious and demanding work for piano, two violins, viola, and cello, Quintet for a Healing Nation shows Brahmsian harmonic influences, yet with thematic treatments and structure exercised by more modern composers.
Also available in a CD/DVD recording by the Adkins String Ensemble (#98201), this publication comes with a complete piano score and separate parts for each performer.
