ADKINS STRING ENSEMBLE PROGRAMS BRILEY QUINTETFORT WORTH, TEXAS The Adkins String Ensemble will be performing Douglas Briley's Quintet for a Healing Nation in March 2003, as a part of their 2002–2003 Concert Series. Jabez Press, LLC, will sponsor the concerts to promote Fort Worth participation in the series. Briley, published by Jabez Press, composed Quintet for a Healing Nation as a result of being named 2002 Composer of the Year by Texas Music Teachers Association. The commissioned composition received its world premiere in June 2002 in Corpus Christi at the annual TMTA Convention. The Adkins String Ensemble performs regularly in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. All claiming roots from Denton, Texas, the group is comprised of brothers and sisters who have secured principal seats in some of the nation's leading orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Houston Symphony, and the National Symphony, among others. The Adkins String Ensemble will be peforming Briley's Quintet for a Healing Nation along with a string quartet of Haydn and the Shostakovich Piano Quintet. Concerts are scheduled for March 6, 2003, at the Van Cliburn Recital Hall in Fort Worth, March 7, 2003, at the Mesquite Arts Center in Mesquite, and March 8, 2003 at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
