DOUGLAS BRILEY NAMED TMTA COMPOSER OF THE YEAR FOR 2002

Texas Music Teachers Association recently named Jabez Press composer Douglas Briley as their Commissioned Composer of the Year for 2002. Each year TMTA selects one Texas composer to write a commissioned work to be premiered at the annual statewide convention in June.

Mr. Briley's commissioned work will be performed at the 2002 TMTA convention in Corpus Christi. The commission requires that the premiered work be scored for no more than six performers and be no more than 20 minutes in length. Mr. Briley plans to compose a quintet for piano and strings.
