Judith Lang Zaimont

Judith Lang Zaimont Judith Lang Zaimont is known worldwide as one of the most distinguished contemporary American composers. Ms. Zaimont joined the JABEZ PRESS roster when her piece, A Calendar Set: Twelve Preludes for Piano, was chosen as the winner of the 2005 JABEZ PRESS Composition Invitational.

A highly versatile composer, Judith Lang Zaimont boasts a résumé that includes three symphonies, chamber opera, oratorios and cantatas, music for wind ensemble, vocal-chamber pieces with varying accompanying ensembles, a wide variety of chamber works, and solo music for strings, wind instruments, piano, organ, and voice. Her music has been played in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and commissioned internationally by ensembles and solo performers.

Zaimont’s prestigious composition awards include commission grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Composers Forum, as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship. She was the Honored Composer at the 11th International Van Cliburn Competition in 2001 where both Gold Medalists, Olga Kern and Stanislav Ioudenitch, selected and performed her Impronta Digitale. In recent years, Zaimont was the 2002 Featured Composer of the National Federation of Music Clubs, 2003 Commissioned Composer of the California Music Teachers Association, Commissioned Composer for the 2003 International San Antonio Piano Competition, recipient of a 2003 Aaron Copland Award, and recipient of a 2005 Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship in Composition.

Outside of composition, Zaimont is also known for her many editorial contributions to publications such as American Music Teacher and the critically-acclaimed book series The Musical Woman: An International Perspective (3 vols., Greenwood Press).

Zaimont is a celebrated teacher, formerly a member of the faculties of Queens College, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Adelphi University, and the University of Minnesota School of Music. Since retiring from full-time college teaching in 2005, she has remained active as a composer, clinician, adjudicator, and masterclass presenter across the U.S. and abroad.
